The last few nights were stuffy. Even with the windows open and the curtains drawn back, it was as if I couldn't convince any of the cool night air to push its way through the greens. After a dozen years or so of living in this old farmhouse, I'd been through plenty of sultry summers. And I knew how to navigate the warm days. Early in the morning, I'd open everything up. Then when the sun rose high enough to shine on the kitchen windows, I diligently go room to room and close it all up again.
