The Anconium to the Beauty, Truth, and Goodness of Christian Revelation
If their wills had remained firm, they would have tried to return to the cloister and even like the Christian martyrs accepted death in trying to do so. Their absolute will did not consent then to the violence, but their conditional will to avoid a greater harm or from fear of the consequences of sentiment is less. In response to these explanations, Dante gives an anconium to Beatrice, which is an anconia to the beauty, truth, and goodness of Christian revelation. Underlining the beauty of the truth, the desire will help and the joy we experience in coming stage by stage to know it more deeply.
