The Endings of a Melodrama
Everybody is compromised in this play, though, arn't there? I mean, you know, anybody who thinks of it as a melodrama, i think he's probably quite wrong. One of the things i loved about it was that it's got a really complex, knotty, almost, or maybe totally, irresolvable, ethical dilemma at the centre. And bennet had, bennet wrote a number of different endings for this, didn't it? Yes, he kept on coming back to and and trying different endings. Ause it's a really tough craft. You have to get the characters into a situation where they can see no way out, and
