The Bible Is Not an Instruction Manual for a Church Already in Existence
I don't see how protestants get its sort of inherent books and can be that confident of it. The gospels definitely assume that the old testament canon is scripture with very few missing citations. We had multiple popes denouncing each other from multiple holy sees in the fourteenth century. At times theology ly evolves. I would view that as the strength of the catholic church. But at the same time, it's not tough for me to go and look who the late first century, early to mid century, church fathers look at to they quoting.
