Ay thinke was born into a middle class family in tangir, north africa. He is of indigenous north african ancestry but not la mazic. At 21 he sets off to go on the pilgrimage to mecca and travels 73 thousand miles. It would take even the fastest person over a year or two years to complete that distance. Ay thinke could afford to travel round the world so worked his way through life. But it's absolutely normal for a young scholar to go elsewhere t learn.
