The Modern Mystery of Access Consciousness

We may not know what consciousness is, but we do know what we're talking about. It's an area of our conscious experience that allows us to access information from the external world. Neuroscientists are pretty great at being able to point to correlations between states of the brain and those mental processes. But there still seems to be something else to our conscious experiences of reality that lies outside of this access consciousness.
