The Effect of Meditation on Pain

We use very realistic pain in the lab. We have this thing on for 10 seconds, and it is really burning. After three or four seconds, it really gets intense. It doesn't burn the skin. So we can deliver it very safely. If you take a person off the street who's never done any practice and you give them the tone, their brain lights up as if they're getting the pain.
