The Declaration of Independence in the 21st Century
Thomas Jefferson said he wanted to write an expression of the American mind. He achieved that, in my view, in a single sense. The treatment of Native Americans by the colonists really was reprehensible. And we still haven't fully acknowledged that fact; you can see anti-slavery voices in the Declaration.
