The group were introduced to RCA by Rod McEwen, a songwriter and poet who later became America's best-selling poet. At this point, McEwen was in a Jacques Drell phase, recording loose translations of the Belgian songwriter's songs with McEwen translating the lyrics. That gig was also the first one where the band and their friends noticed that large chunks of the audience were now dressing up in costumes that were reminiscent of the Old West.
