How Common Was Dictation in the Ancient World?

Dictation was very common for people who wanted to write something like a book, but did not have writing literacy. Many people have the mistaken understanding that like it'd be kind of like today. Dictation is when I say, okay, write these words down. So that did happen in the ancient world. And it did affect the New Testament.
