The History of Air Conditioning in the United States
The first modern air conditioning system was installed at a movie theater in Los Angeles in 1922. By the start of World War II, most of the movie theaters in the southern United States had air conditioning. The US government started air conditioning some of its buildings in the late 1920s. In 1931, H.H. Schultz and J.Q. Sherman launched an early version of the window air conditioner that was too expensive to actually be workable.
