The Grace of God Is Essential for Salvation, Right?
In St. Thomas Aquinas' understanding, the grace of God is essential for salvation. Eternal life is not merely getting to heaven, it's having one's heart and mind elevated to know and love God. Salvation is not God just sort of saying, you're a good person so I won't punish you. It's sharing that supernatural life of God, right? John 17, 4. This is eternal life to know you, the one true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. And another way we could simply say eternal life is essentially supernatural.
