In case number two, Jeremy's demon was significantly weakened by his attempt to go to confession. Father has shared throughout the series that in order for an exorcism to be effective, there must be a will to repent and a genuine desire to be liberated. On the way home, Peter and Anton stopped by a local Catholic Church and asked the priest for the sacrament of confession. That experience gave each of them a newfound peace.
