The Purification of the Red Heifer
The ritual of the red heifer has, as milgram notes, similarities to the ritual of the day of atonement. In con a to both those rituals, there is no despatching of one animal into the wilderness or open field. The application of blood to the bodies of persons should also be considered in light of the different foci of impurity. Many of the purification rites are principally dealing with ways that the sanctuary and its objects have been rendered impure by people's behaviour.
