Grief seems to be a kind of the reason for it is a certain kind of loss. But how can we ever justifiably stop grieving? And there's a real puzzle there. There's nothing in the object of grief that tells you how long to grieve for. This is, I think, one reason why rituals of grieving, sort of practices of mourning are not rationally mandated.
