Astiocus and the Spartans in the Peloponnesian Fleet

Astiocus was sent to take over control of Kios and the Spartan land forces. He narrowly escaped capture by a large force of 30 Athenian ships sailing from Samos to Lesbos. On his way to Maledus, in order to formally assume his command is Naveark of the Peloponnesian fleet, he stopped at Mount Corarchus and the territory of Arathry. The two forces had been separated only by a single hill between them, and neither became aware of the other's presence. After inquiring into the supposed treachery, the two Spartan commanders found that the whole story had been made up. Though Thucydides doesn't give specifics
