As depressing as it might sound, we need to try and put some numbers on this. How long could you keep paying your bills for if you were unable to work? These are the things we need to to put numbers and dates and times on. I think it helps to put oure s into sort of basic or non negotiable, the stuff we have to pay every month, then leisure. And oversy, if things get tight, we work back from there, firsty, getting rid of the luxury stuff, then daling back the leisure stuff,. until maybe we're left only with our subsistence expenses.
