Are the Hasidim Really Teaching Us Anything?

Matthew Yergin: The New York Times piece points to these people who leave the community and are essentially a drift. But as he points out, the overall kind of life outcomes of people within this community are quite good compared to much of the United States. He says that's one way in which you could argue that Hasidim have maybe broken the implicit bargain that they have made with America. And likewise, when you become active in highly contentious political issues, far-seeding the controversies surrounding the New York City Comptroller or what have you, people are going to take a very keen interest in your activities.
