Should Companies Own Sensitive AI?

If AI is sentient and conscious, should companies own them? And the answer to that might be yes or no. But I don't think an executive board at a company should be the ones who decide whether or not they can own certain kinds of people. That's kind of where this really where the rubber hits the road on this.
