Open Source Software and Its Basic Principles
I feel like in some sense open source is a reaction to a broken system around intellectual property that in fact patents are meant to take something where ideas are non-rivaly. The issue is then really about attribution and credit for those ideas, I think that's where the open source license is really focusing on. How do we create systems of exchange that credit and build on one other's effort and are really designed specifically around that? Your community contribution is one of the key values that we all recognize. Whether it's software or it's hardware or whether it's seeds or it's artwork these are all examples of the intention by which we're creating works that are intended to be built upon.
