In the Chinese context, in particular, there's a real period of like questioning questioning patriarchal authority. Maoism tried to grapple with this and I don't think they were wrong to look at it but their solutions were all terrible. A lot of recent Asian American culture can't imagine the family as something that can be transformed. It just kind of takes it for granted as this like static eternal structure which can't be challenged.
