The northern Sudanese began to take captive tribes that they considered to be Arabs and saw them as slaves. The national Islamic front took power and declared a jihad against non-Muslims in the south. Many of those Christians were no doubt disciples of Sudan Interior Mission, says Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. He was interested in these events because his family had been supporters of mission work in Sudan.
