The preponderance of evidence seems to suggest that these kind of treatments are not necessary, even in the most severe cases. The judge rotenberg center and the parents who support it argue that they also represent the only valuable treatment for patients who would otherwise destroy themselves. Many other facilities do treat children with problems just as severe using methods that do not involve electrocuting kids.
