Copenhagen Atomics' waste burner is designed to consume a combination of thorium and nuclear waste left over from the light water uranium reactors of yesteryear. It's a molten salt reactor design inspired by Alvin Weinberg's research at Oakridge. The company believes its waste burners could in theory remain in continuous service for as long as 15 years.
