The Potential of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch has the potential to be a new source of coastal species, says Jaya. More research is needed but it can stay there for years and then get kicked out during storms into surrounding ocean currents. Once plastics are back in the ocean currents they can arrive on essentially any of the coasts in the north Pacific just depending on items, characteristics and the weather conditions.
