S1.E2: The Basic Tool of Organizing: The One to One or Relational Meeting
Listen, Organize, Act! Organizing & Democratic Politics
Doing One to One's - What Is It?
The one to one as a practice embodies a distinctive vision of democratic politics. As a practice, it involves having a very particular kind of conversation with someone. It seeks to identify what they are passionate about or angry about and whether they will act on that desire for change. Arnie Graf is an experienced organizer who has helped shape its contemporary practice. He began organizing work as part of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s then went on to work with the Industrial Areas Foundation for many decades. Recently he's worked with the British Labour Party to develop the insights of organizing for local party politics in the UK.
