Do You Think That American Faculty Are Not Good Teachers?
There is some pretty good knowledge about what constitutes good teaching, but most college teachers aren't aware of that knowledge. That's why it's still an amateur enterprise, the teaching part. We have professionalized the research function, but we have not professionalized the teaching function. There isn't a shared set of understandings or practices on what constitutes good teacher practice.
