The Importance of Hematocrit in Hypovolemic Anemia

The patient's labs were consistent with one severe hypernatremia, two elevated BUN and creatinine, which point to an acute kidney injury. This anemia could be a nutritional aberranti, such as iron deficiency anemia or anemia of chronic disease in the setting of a complex underlying condition. In the setting of dehydration, hematocrit values would actually be increased. The treatment goal for this patient is going to be reduced serum sodium concentration by 10 million quivolence per liter in 24 hours.
