Jay Parini: I think reading books that are written about experiences other than yours helps to open up your perspective. As you get older, maybe be more selective about the books that you're reading, but I strongly recommend that. When I read nonfiction, what I look for is helping to understand the world's review points that aren't mine. And so whether that's a book about how to lead an organization and structure the culture around that, there's some great books out there.
