The Pain in the Butt
When you were a judge, did you have moments where you were like, is this worth the potential pain in the butt? I coached soccer for a number of years. It's just like, why do I want that trouble? Why do I want somebody raising an eyebrow and saying, he was favoring that lawyer because his son is the star midfielder on my team or something?" You've written about how judges in the lower courts, they don't like these rules necessarily. They are a pain, but it's functional to have people, to have this implied threat. The only difference with the Supreme Court is because there is no implied threat.
