The Importance of Virtue in Poitier's Films
The first time I realised that it was one of the films that Poitier directed, I was actually shocked. He's very loose in their sense, and he lets the characters, especially the comic actors, just basically do their thing. And he does it with Wilder and Pryor especially, right? He just kind of lets them loose and sees what happens. Do you think virtue, the idea of virtue, became a kind of prison for him, Jan? I think so at some point, but I also think that he knew when to take a bow.
