A lot of the people who were at Veterans Row had been in programs on that VA campus. The land was donated more than 100 years ago by a wealthy widow to be a home for disabled soldiers. Prior to Los Angeles becoming our nation's capital, nearly 5,000 veterans lived on this property.

When the Veterans Administration failed to build the homes it promised, unhoused vets built a tent city across the street — in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. KCRW’s Anna Scott tells their story in “City of Tents: Veterans Row.”
