A lot of companies now have retention dates where they have to get rid of data that they created basically no matter what. It's like the old cables thing, isn't it? There is a whole subreddit called data Houders and quite a lot of people on there are just keeping stuff for a rainy day. Maybe someday we'll all be digital librarians.
