Most words were spelled in the way we would spell them today, but there were some notable exceptions. There was still a tendency to stick an extra e on the end of a word in a somewhat random manner. printers sometimes used those final e's to justify the margins in their books. We should also remember that the letters U and V were not yet distinct letters in the mid-1500s.
