The Case of Adolf Lyons
The court in a five to four decision says no, we can't stop them from using chokeholds in the future because even though they already put you into a chokehold once, you can't prove that they'll do it again. The year is 1982, so William Renquist is on the court, but he's not yet the chief justice. This case, I think is a case study in how and why justice often lags so far behind for so many people who are wronged in this country. And in how the court has used procedural technicalities to allow police departments in this country to promulgate brutal and unconstitutional tactics against its citizens.
