Ionizing Radiation and Particulate Radiation

Once we hit the x-rays and then beyond them are the gamma rays, gamma rays are much shorter. These are called the ionizing radiations because they have enough energy to actually rip electrons off of atoms and produce ions. The reason that that's not good is because they break chemical bonds, particularly in biological molecules. And so this is the mechanism of what we think over biological consequences are.
