Richard's builders start work on Chateau Gyard in 1196. They're pretty much handing it over to the painters and decorators by end of 1198. From this point on, Richard has an unbreakable forward base from which he can plan and execute his reconquest. But you can't win a war with one castle alone. There will have to be more sieges, more skirmishes, more castles seized and more castles built before the Lionheart can truly say that vengeance has been his.
