The expectation of the markets giving you exactly the same returns every year is wrongly placed. We should consider this called an arbitrage - buying something at one price and selling it to somebody else for a different price. For instance, if I bought fish in Bangalore and I brought it to Bangalore, the price increases by 4x. But there's a value of added, I have actually transported to the fish.
