Is It a Compromise?
Pilip petin was a hero for fighting against germany in the first world war. He accepted rule of only part of france, and then to some extent, with germany holding power. It is somewhat of a compromise for him, but it also allows him to follow this idea of a national revolution. There has been this kind of constant back and forth since the french revolution - between republican forms of government and more authoritarian ones.
