Reverse psychology shows that suppressing thoughts, sensations and urges just increases them. And then there's this third piece, which is something we talk about a lot, which is the judgment piece. We not only have the urge, think about the urge, try to get rid of the urge, but then we judge ourselves for the fact that we had the urge in the first place.
