Astronomers wanted equal hours because they're involved in looking out to the stars. The people wanted subjectivity, because some hours are longer than other hours. If your faith had prayer times which were based on sunset or sunrise, then those unequal hours that are related to daylight and darkness periods is superimportant. And so i guess this just reminds us that there is no universal time system. It's all made up by humans to serve purposes on earth.
