How to Communicate Effectively About Your Emotions
There are three main feeling zones in the body that really cause most of the problems, especially in relationship conflict. Once you get good at saying, I'm angry right now or I feel sad or I feel scared, once you get having a conversational type of relationship with your own emotions, it becomes much easier then. That's a big if though, because as you mentioned, oftentimes the growth of one partner is far out front of the other person and the other person is digging in their heels.
