There are a variety of different committees within the International Astronomical Union. Michael Brown had discovered a new large object out in the Kuiper belt that was potentially larger than Pluto. The question was, does it get to be named by the icy objects minor planet naming committee ordoes it get to being named by the planetary naming committee?
