"Unexplained" is a show about the unknown. We're comfortable talking about things that might happen in the future, we don't fully understand now. In practical terms, what did the US actually get out of going to the moon itself? It's not like we have a colony there. And if we can carry forward this momentum and inspire the next generation of scientists who are going to be inheriting this project...we potentially can achieve what maybe humanity's crowning scientific achievement.
Back in January, we spoke to a scientist at the National Ignition Facility about how close they were to achieving what’s been called “one of the most impressive scientific feats of the 21st century.” This week, they announced they’ve finally done it.
A version of this episode originally ran on January 5, 2022.
