The Importance of Stewardship Interventions
Most antibiotic overuse occurs at discharge and in the outpatient setting, right? You get three to five days inpatient, then you get a prescription for seven days to go home because it feels weird to prescribe one pill. So there's a lot of opportunity here and this is probably where we should be focusing our inpatient stewardship efforts to make the biggest impact on patient care. But I mean, Dr. Morin said it too, we just don't have good data to show that deescalation impacts any of these outcomes. So bad news. But yeah, let's talk about good stewardship interventions. Things that are amazing that they make a difference when they save lives.
