Bismarck was determined to stop Britain carving out yet another large part of the globe for itself within Africa. The French explorer, Brazza, had been traveling around the Congo making many treaties in the same way that Henry Stanley had been doing for Leopold. So, the Germans started to worry about what French were going to do in Africa. They were all concerned that one of the other great powers was going to carve out a large part of Africa for themselves. And this would lead to them losing power in relation to each other.
