Divine Joy Randolph does the most unbelievable performance of a woman of color who is somehow both Jack Black and way better than Jack Black. There's like a sad moment where she like texts a playlist to her ex which is also wild because every other time all these 30-something characters are just like calling each other on the phone. No messages wild. Yeah anything else we want to say about what the book or the text in general is up to well between its different mediums. yeah it's really weird to like be so confronted with the immediate periodness of the show and also reading a book that is a period piece now even though it wasn't when it was written.
This week’s episode is our recent live show crossover event with Appointment Television at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. The Appointment Television and Overdue crews gather together to discuss the recent TV adaptation and compare it to the book from which it (and the film, and the ill-starred musical) sprung. Whether we figure out the relative superiority of books or TV as competing artistic formats is left up to the listener.
