The Soviet Union and the Great Terror
The Soviet Union was not all that great in the 1930s. The Molotov-Riventrop Pact, named after foreign ministers of both nations, has to be understood in context. Stalin's Soviet Union and Hitler's German Reich entered a mutual non-aggression treaty in 1939. Both dictatorial powers subsequently carved up Eastern Europe among themselves.
