The Threat Ambiguity Theory
Theory of creepiness is based on what's called essentialism. You either possess this essence fully or you don't have it at all. And there are clear borders between these things, so if you're missing it and something's really wrong. The threat ambiguity theory says that people can be confused about whether a thing poses a threat to them.
