The Violence in Video Games
In 1999, two teenagers went on a shooting rampage at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. They killed 13 people and injured 21 others before taking their own lives. The issue was thrown back into the spotlight after it was discovered that the killers were avid Doom players. A flood of studies emerged in the early 2000s claiming to have found a connection between violent video games and aggressive behavior. In 2011, the US Supreme Court confirmed that video games have the same protection under the First Amendment as books and movies - no matter how gory they become.
